Archeon

Travel back in time ? a long way back ? to the camp of the early hunter-gatherers (8800-5300 BC). This is the earliest period presented at Archeon. You can climb into a canoe carved from a single tree trunk and hunt with a real spear! During the Linear Pottery Culture (5330-2000 BC) our ancestors started to till the land and keep animals. Try your hand at milling grain to make bread. Or try to shift the huge stones of the ?dolmen?, a burial mound dating from the Funnel Beaker Culture (approx. 3500 BC). In the Bronze Age (from approx. 2000 BC), people began to fashion and use metal objects. The discovery of the extremely strong metal iron heralded the start of the Iron Age (approx. 800 BC until the Roman era).

Will you hit the target?
The fourteenth century comes to life in the medieval town of Gravendam, where the craftsmen are hard at work every day. You can watch the blacksmith, the carpenter and the baker. You can even make your own colourful felt armlet. When you hear the baker?s horn, you know a fresh batch of bread is ready. Toothache? Visit the barber, who will not only pull out your tooth but can cut your hair at the same time! There are lots of medieval games to play and you can put your archery skills to the test.
